Surplus 308
So there is a bunch of this German 308 coming in at midway and ammoman. They say its not corroded like a bunch of the other 308. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with it.

Never heard of any corrosive 308 Nato.

I stocked up when the AmmoMan had Lake City (brass and boxer primed, re-loadable) .308 for $125.00 for 500 count in 2006. |
Re: Surplus 308
German 308 surplus. How do you think it's going to shoot? Probably really good, it's German. I'll probably get 3 battle packs. That's decent price in these times unfortunately.

As seen above, the corrosion is outside, on the cases. BTW, there's a lot of Seller and Belliot corrosive ammo out there, it's still for sale at samco global. It's headstamped O-O and year (86?), and in light blue 10x2 boxes. Rumor is that S&B mfgd it for contract to someone in South America, but they never paid up... As to the original question, supposedly this batch is in a lot better than the last batch. I've shot a little DAG and MEN, and it's pretty good. Check out XXIV Corps thread at www.m14tfl.com |

I wouldn't touch anything that looked like that. It doesn't appear to be simply surface tarnish, but stuff that could go deep enough to affect case integrity.

You're wrong. "Eric/Marty/the ammoman" is the worst sort of scum. There's a reason he, as a paid sponsor, has been kicked off every firearms forum on the net. Do a search for ammoman fraud.:thumpdown |
Re: Surplus 308
MEN, and DAG are both good headstamps. Accuracy is almost on par with the Aussie that is no longer available. Hopefully the lastest batch that is coming in won't be corroded like the last one.

Re: Surplus 308
I know what you mean, the last battlepack I bought was $32 and I thought it was high at the time since the previous ones were $26-$28 for 200 Hirtenberg. I ought to open one up to see if it is corroded from the cardboard boxes.
The stuff in the picture looks like bulk packed delinked MG ammo which will corrode over time due to the different metals touching. I don't think I have ever seen boxed ammo corroded like that. $90 is .45 a round, not bad for these days but still hard to swallow. |

Re: Surplus 308
I have a good friend who is in an aduterous relationship with another man's wife. He can't see why I would be offended. As far as I'm concerned, if he'll go after one man's wife, he'll go after mine.
Same thing with ammoshyster robbing folks. He never got me, but if he'll get ANYONE, I won't do business with him. It's called a matter of principle. |
Re: Surplus 308
Back to Topic:
I obtained a few thousand rounds of this German surplus ammo back in 2008, and it appears to be oxidation rather than corrosion. It shoots fine in my M1A, and is comparable to the Portuguese milsurp .308 About 10% of the rounds needed to be segregated and tumbled, but I would not pay more than .40 each if this is the same batch of ammo. Vinegar will reverse copper oxidation, but I don't know what effect soaking it might have on loaded ammo. |
